Tax Center: tax-ready books every year, straight from the ledger you already close
It's March. Your tax accountant needs a trial balance, a cash conversion and last year's adjustments, and today that means exports, a spreadsheet and a week of back-and-forth for both of you. Tax Center gives you both a better starting point. Every tax year gets its own set of tax books, carried in from your Docyt books and tied out, so your accountant converts, adjusts and reconciles inside Docyt, with a book-to-tax reconciliation ready for the return. Your operating books never change.
Three outcomes
Carry in. Convert.
Hand it over.
Tax books that start from your books, not from an export
Pick your first tax year and your return method. Tax Center carries each year in from your Docyt books and proves the two tie before anyone touches a number. When the books move, refresh and your adjustments stay put.
- Cash or accrual return method
- Every year carried in with one click
- Tie-out proof against your books
- Refresh any time; adjustments kept
The accrual-to-cash conversion, drafted for you
Receivables, payables, accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue. Tax Center suggests where every balance sheet account belongs, flags anything it can't place, and drafts the conversion entries. Your preparer reviews and posts. No workbook, no re-keying.
- Conversion policy pre-built from your chart of accounts
- Every account placed, every gap flagged
- Entries drafted, posted, reversed, never deleted
- Set the policy once; it serves every open year
A return-ready package your CPA will thank you for
Tax depreciation, non-deductible meals, penalties: tax adjustments live in the tax books, never in the operating books. When the year is done, export the tax-basis statements and the reconciliation, mark the year as filed, and it locks.
- Tax-basis Balance Sheet, P&L, Trial Balance and General Ledger
- Book to tax-basis reconciliation and conversion worksheet
- One-click CSV of every report, entry and worksheet
- Filed years lock; who carried in and who filed is on record
Why it is different
Cash-basis books, not a cash-basis report.
Flipping a report to cash basis just redraws the report. Tax Center produces real tax books with real entries your accountant can open, question and defend, built from the ledger Docyt reconciles every day. And because the rules, the entries and every filed year live in your Docyt workspace, you and your accountant open next year exactly where you left off: same policy, same adjustments, same record.
Two systems
The books in one place, the conversion in a spreadsheet somewhere else. Rebuilt every year from a fresh export, and neither side can see the other's work.
One system
The tax books are carried in from the same Docyt ledger you close every month. Same system, same chart of accounts, same numbers. One conversion policy serves every open year, so the second year is faster than the first.
- Real entries, not a toggle
- Operating books untouched, all year
- Filed years frozen; unfile to reopen
- A shared record you and your accountant both work from
Your tax accountant will like this too
A workspace your tax accountant can start in on day one.
Invite your tax accountant with the Tax Accountant role. They get their own login and a workspace built for the job: tied-out books waiting, a conversion policy already drafted from your chart of accounts, last year's adjustments on record, and the statements and reconciliation one click away. No exports to request, no backup files, no shared passwords. Everything the return needs, nothing to wade through.
- Full access to the tax books: policy, entries, reports, filing
- Your outside firm works in the same tax books you see
- The rest of your workspace stays private by default
READY ON DAY ONE
How it works
From your books to a filed year in four steps.
Set up tax books
Choose the first tax year and the return method. Two clicks.
Carry in the year
Tax Center imports the year from your books and proves they tie.
Confirm the conversion policy
Review the suggested account groups, place anything flagged, draft the conversion entries.
Review, adjust, file
Post the entries, add tax adjustments, export the tax-basis package, mark the year as filed.
Who it is for
Built for everyone who touches the return.
Owners and controllers
Hand your tax accountant tied-out, tax-ready books instead of exports, and keep the books you close every month untouched.
Multi-entity operators
Every entity gets its own tax books, built the same way, from the same ledger. The second year is faster than the first.
Tax preparers and CPA firms
Start from tied-out books instead of a trial balance export, with a conversion policy already drafted and your prior-year adjustments on record. Fewer questions for the client, a faster path to the return.
Frequently asked
Frequently asked questions
Does Tax Center change my operating books?
No. Tax Center keeps a separate set of tax books. Conversion entries and tax adjustments post there, never to the books you run the business on.
What if the books change after I carry a year in?
Click Refresh imported financials. Tax Center pulls in the change and keeps the tax adjustments you already made. Once a year is marked as filed it is locked, so nothing drifts after you file.
Does it work for accrual-method returns?
Yes. Every tax year can be carried in, adjusted and reported. The accrual-to-cash conversion drafts automatically for cash-method returns.
Does Tax Center file my return?
No. It produces the tax-basis statements and the book-to-tax reconciliation your preparer uses to complete the return, in a fraction of the time.
What does my tax accountant get?
Their own login and a workspace with everything the return needs: tied-out tax books, a conversion policy drafted from your chart of accounts, prior-year adjustments on record, and the tax-basis statements and reconciliation ready to export. The rest of your workspace stays private by default.
Which businesses can use Tax Center?
Tax Center runs on Docyt native ledger, the ledger Docyt keeps and closes for your business. That is why the tax books tie to your books without an export.
Monthly books and a tax-ready set, in one place.
Live today in the Docyt Accounting Suite. Runs on Docyt native ledger, which is why the tax books tie to the books you close.
The same ledger, two more ways: BooksGPT → ask your books a question, get the answer now. AI Dashboards → ask once, keep the answer live every month.
